About the role

  • Berkshire Hathaway Energy (BHE) is seeking a highly motivated accounting professional. Candidates will be considered for placement as either a Senior Technical Accountant (Grade 15) or an Accounting Adviser (Grade 16) based on experience, technical expertise, and demonstrated leadership capabilities. This role supports BHE’s financial reporting, consolidation, and corporate accounting processes, while partnering with business units across the organization. At higher levels, this position also serves as a technical accounting advisor and plays a key role in driving enterprise-wide accounting practices and financial reporting excellence. Key Responsibilities Core Responsibilities (All Levels)
  • Support the monthly financial reporting cycle and consolidation process for BHE and its subsidiaries Prepare and/or review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in accordance with GAAP Maintain general ledger and accounting processes for corporate entities, including intercompany transactions
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of information system
  • Partner with business units to provide financial information, reporting support, and accounting guidance
  • Support reporting requirements for Berkshire Hathaway Inc. and external reporting
  • Collaborate with accounting, finance, and systems teams to ensure accurate and timely reporting Additional Responsibilities – Accounting Adviser (Grade 16) Serve as a technical accounting advisor, providing guidance to leadership and business units Review and validate financial results for accuracy, completeness, and consistency across entities
  • Drive process improvements and accounting standard implementation across BHE
  • Provide leadership on cross-business accounting initiatives and projects
  • Support and monitor compliance with internal controls, SOX 404, and ISO 27001 requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • (Grade 15 – Sr Technical Accountant) Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance Advanced degree and/or public accounting experience preferred Approximately 5 or more years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience
  • Experience with financial reporting, consolidations, and general ledger accounting
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills Proficiency with accounting systems and tools (e.g., Oracle, Excel)
  • Preferred / Advanced Qualifications (Grade 16 – Accounting Adviser) Approximately 6 or more years of progressive accounting and reporting experience required Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred Demonstrated experience leading financial reporting and consolidation processes, as well as cross-functional leadership and project management
  • Experience with complex corporate structures, intercompany accounting, and enterprise reporting Leadership skills to provide guidance, direction, orientation and instruction Ability to influence, advise, and partner with senior leadership Key Competencies (All Levels)
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements Excellent analytical and decision-making abilities Effective communication and collaboration skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Experience working with financial systems and large data sets
