About the role

Job Description

Our Opportunity Chewy’s newly formed Partner Fulfillment Technology team is building the data foundation that will power the next generation of vendor partnerships, delivery promise accuracy, inventory visibility, and operational reliability. As a Data Engineer II (C05), you will help build and support the pipelines, workflows, and foundational datasets that transform fragmented partner data into trusted operational insights for our Operations, Vendor Management, and BI teams.

You will work within established architectural patterns and orchestration frameworks while contributing to the evolution and reliability of our rapidly scaling data ecosystem.

This role is ideal for an engineer with strong SQL and data engineering fundamentals who is looking to grow deeper in distributed data workflows, orchestration, and operational data systems.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and maintain batch data pipelines and workflow orchestration using Airflow, AWS services, SQL, and Python.
  • Develop and enhance datasets supporting partner fulfillment operations, inventory visibility, shipments, returns, and operational reporting.
  • Work within established data architecture and orchestration patterns to extend ingestion pipelines and operational workflows. Monitor, solve, and optimize Airflow DAGs and data pipelines to improve reliability, observability, and operational performance.
  • Implement data quality checks, validation logic, and alerting to ensure trustworthy downstream datasets.
  • Partner with application engineering, BI, Operations, and Vendor Management teams to support operational and analytical use cases. Participate in root-cause analysis and operational support for production data workflows.
  • Contribute to engineering procedures including testing, documentation, code reviews, and CI/CD processes.
  • Support ongoing improvements to pipeline scalability, maintainability, and operational excellence. What You’ll Need Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent experience. 2+ years of professional experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or related backend/data platform roles.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience working with large-scale datasets. Working knowledge of Python for data pipeline development and workflow orchestration.
  • Hands-on experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow.
  • Experience building or supporting production ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Familiarity with AWS data technologies such as S3, Glue, Lambda, Redshift, or Snowflake. Understanding of data modeling fundamentals, pipeline monitoring, and operational fixing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn in a fast-moving operational environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in e-commerce, logistics, supply chain, fulfillment, or operational data environments.
  • Familiarity with operational workflows involving orders, shipments, inventory, returns, or vendor operations. Exposure to distributed data processing tools such as Spark, Glue, or EMR.
  • Experience supporting Airflow DAG operations, debugging failures, and managing scheduled workflows. Exposure to data quality or observability frameworks such as Great Expectations or Datadog.
  • Experience partnering with BI or analytics teams to support reporting and operational metrics. The base salary range for this role is $110,500 - $176,000.00. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location.
